Early Life and Beginnings

Born in Miami on July 30, 1992, to Italian parents, Lou and Santina Caruana, the young chess prodigy moved to New York at the age of four.

By age five, Caruana had learned the game and within six months, played in his first tournament. In November 2004, when he was 12, the family relocated to Madrid, Spain, where he began training under Boris Zlotnik.
